[...] The most famous of the e-book readers is the Amazon Kindle. This device lets you shop for, download over the air, and read books from Amazon.coms massive repository of media. From what I am told it’s a great device and many people love it. However, if you want to look at a PDF or a Word document that you have just side loaded onto the device you’re out of luck as it simply will not work. You will have to convert the file to something the Kindle can understand (this short coming has been dealt with to some extend by the new Kindle DX). The other problem is that the Kindle only works in the US. If you are outside the US you can still get it to work, but it’s going to be a complex and less than optimal experience.
"My husband wants to buy a laptop, but I said not to get one with Vista and to wait for Windows 7. Am I right?

Right not buy Vista.
Wrong to wait when you can buy a MacBook with Mac OS X now.
