One of the most exasperating incompatibilities between Macs and PCs concerns Microsoft Powerpoint. This program is almost universally used on both platforms. But presentations made on PCs, for example, often display improperly (e.g., graphic elements jumbled up) on Macs, and presumably vice versa. I have seen this problem frequently at conferences. Why would Microsoft allow this to happen?

I have a mixed PC/Mac environment.
I was supprised that Walt did not mention Boot Camp or Parallels. I find these basically make the mixing of the two platforms seamless. This is especially true if you add to the mix Paragon's NTFS for Mac® OS X 7.0. This lets the Mac read and write to NTFS partitions and they have a PC browser that lets the PC do the same.
I have used their stuff for 3 years and am impressed!

"but now I am thinking of adding a Windows laptop"

Walter,

A much better answer would have been.
What?! Are you crazy? Buy a MacBook and you will be much happier.
