Regarding the Powerpoint question: Google’s free beta “Docs” service (http://docs.google.com) allows you to view, edit, and export Powerpoint documents, although it has its limitations: it requires you to be online, there is an upload limit of 10MB for presentations, and some documents do not render properly (it is in beta after all)

OpenOffice.org’s Impress software can also edit and export Powerpoint documents, though you are required to download the full suite, it has a interface which is rather tedious and complex, and, again, it has been known to misread certain documents.

a better program than AVG-virus scanner is Avira AntiVir PersonalEdition Classic. it is freeware and comes from a european company. you can download it at http://www.free-av.de/
in many tests it gets better ratings than the big players

you should also install the freeware adaware by lavasoft http://www.lavasoftusa.com

zonealarm as firewall – freeware

another usefull software is spybot. it helps u control the registry, also freeware http://www.safer-networking.org/en/index.html
