Hi Walt,
I have not so good experience with Vista on Macbook Pro... After instalation it was relatively fast. But one month after system is very slow and when I`m waiting minutes when system boots, minutes when I launch any bigger program, It is frustrating. Before Vista system we one year ran the Win XP. But with SP3 system was also very slow. His user doesn`t make any changes. Very interesting fact is, that when we are waiting for any activity, 80% of resources is unused! What this computer do? Other fact is, that performance test are very very possitive. Processor and graphic test of this 2.4Ghz machine with 2GB of RAM are very good. But I must say, that my DELL 2.26GHz is much more quck in normal office work. Program are starting very fast and system boot is 4 times shorter. Any ideas? Pleas do not say somethin like do not use Windows, we need use some program for architecture that we can not run under MAC OS...

can someone help me?
I simply want to install Bootcamp on my MAC, to watch TV and synch my mobile. Is Vista or XP likely to be better for that? thanks

[...] And speaking of running Windows on an Intel iMac using Bootcamp, which is what we do to run Windows-only games, this is a very funny link, but it’s not really accurate. We actually run Windows XP instead of Vista because it runs games better, and is more stable. Honestly our iMac running Windows is easily the fastest and most stable Windows machine I’ve ever seen, probably largely because it’s missing all the bloat that normally comes on a PC (and because I’m very careful about what gets installed on it.) Walt Mossberg from the Wall Street Journal also reports that an iMac running Vista is the best Vista machine he’s seen. [...]

I have been using both Parallels and VMWare Fusion beta. I am a bit different in that I am running a bit of esoteric software made for designing knitware (www.greatknitdesigns.com). The software is an older Win 3.1 program that has been tweaked for Win 98, and beyond. As such, it has a bit of wonky code and is even having some issues running under Vista HOME.

I purchased Parallels for my MacBook with 2 Gig RAM in January and loaded the knitting program. It runs under Parallels, but for some reason, the database of custom designs gets corrupted very easily. Naturally, this is a bit of an issue. It's not fun to lose all you designs.

I downloaded the beta of VMWare Fusion and have had no problems, despite actively trying to create them. I have "crashed" the Windows machine, I have left files unsaved and open. I've crashed the Mac instead of shutting it down. In short, I've done everything I can think of to cause a problem.

I agree there are a few more bells and whistles to parallels but, for me at least, it is definitely NOT the best choice.

If you're having problems running specific Windows programs on your Mac with Parallels, VMware is worth looking at.
